Who we are
Upper Waitematā Ecology Network
The Upper Waitematā Ecology Network is an open forum for a wide range of groups and organisations who collaborate to restore and regenerate the ecologies of the Upper Waitematā Harbour. From backyards to urban forests to the waters of Te Waitematā we aim to improve the biodiversity of our neighbourhoods and wider landscape.
The Environmental Groups in the network rely on the valuable contribution of volunteers and coordinators. Their projects include planting trees, trapping predators, monitoring birds, cleaning up our beaches, advocating within civic processes, leading sustainable actions and sharing stories of heritage. All work is valued including making cups of tea at working bees.
We appreciate the beauty of the Upper Waitematā Harbour, and are proud of its ecological significance within the region. We see our role as a contribution towards Kaitiakitanga.
We are welcoming many new people to our neighbourhoods and inviting them to join in the care of our place. Together we are achieving something greater than we could on our own. We are bringing more and more life and joy to each other, the land, forests, birds, waterways, fish and all creatures of the Upper Waitematā.

We also collaborate and share our knowledge and experience with groups located in other local board area such as Pest Free Coatesville and many more. We always welcome new members or groups and exchanges to grow our network and our expertise.

All our community group members and partners have regular volunteering opportunities that you can take part in to help restoring the environment.
It is also a great opportunity to meet people, learn new skills, share your knowledge or spend some time in nature.
