What you can do
We encourage you to volunteer with us!
You can decide whether you would like to volunteer with our Upper Waitematā Ecology Network or with one of our community groups (Albany, Unsworth Heights, Rosedale, Whenuapai, West Harbour, Hobsonville, Paremoremo, Herald Island or Greenhithe) or whether you need help starting your own community group.
No matter your experience or skill we welcome you to join us. Every single thing you do will make a difference, whether that is in your local reserve, beach or back garden.
We need help with a variety of tasks from communication to trapping to working in reserves to testing the water quality or starting a new backyard nursery. Whether your objective is to get fit, relax in nature, make new friends, help Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) thrive, share your kaupapa (work) or learn new skills you will have a place in the whānau (family group). We would love to hear from you.
Here are some ideas of how you can get involved, some are one off events, others need more ongoing commitment:
maintaining native plants
planting trees (you'll have to wait for winter for this though)
pest animal trapping
social media content (images, videos, written content)
design work (logo's, posters, display boards)
student leaders at events (you need to regularly commit to attend)
collecting seeds and growing native plants at home
campaigning for environmental protection (writing to Councillors and MPs, submissions on new policies)
science projects (water testing, monitoring the impact of work done, bird monitoring)
clean up (litter picking) events
