Raising awareness of our work and sharing knowledge

Making a difference locally and regionally

Campaigning for environmental protection

The collaborative efforts of our volunteers enable us to have meaningful impact on the environment.  Here are just some examples of the work that we have done in the last 12 months

Education

We support our people and share our knowledge time and resources to help others and provide a positive outcome for the environment.  We model the principles of manaakitanga (respect and care) and whakawhanaungatanga (collaborative relationships).

Projects include:

  • Suporting Rangitoto College Enviro Group with trapping training

  • Collaboration between Kristin Year 2 and Settlers Lifestyle Village

  • Auckland Climate Festival panel discussion and presentation

Volunteering

Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) is at the heart of our mahi (work).  We understand the interconnected relationship we have with nature and know that by caring for our rohe (local area), our communities will improve now and become a haven and a joy to live in for the future.

Projects include:

  • Planting over 12,000 native plants, many grown in local backyard nurseries

  • 2,500 actively managed traps and bait stations set across the area

  • Supporting local community based initiatives such as the Greenhithe Ecology Network

Advocacy

We flourish, thrive and grow from a foundation of decision-making and action based on our knowledge and experience and with a regenerative future in mind.  Our mahi (work) strives for the promotion of our natural environment, ensuring the prosperity of the whenua (land), awa (rivers), moana (sea), the atmosphere and our people and their places.

Projects include:

  • Submissions and presentation in regards to Local Plan Changes in Whenuapai

  • Operational and strategic feedback on Upper Harbour Local Board's Pest Management Strategy

  • Advocacy for the adoption of Auckland's Future Development Strategy
